NC Cheer

PURPOSE
The North County Youth Football & Cheer program was formed to achieve the following
-Inspire youth in grades K-12, regardless of race, creed or national origin to practice the ideas of scholarship, sportsmanship and physical fitness
-Familiarize all players with the fundamentals of football or cheerleading
-Provide an opportunity to ALL of our community to participate in a supervised, organized and safety-oriented manner
-Keep the welfare of participants free from any adult ambition and personal glory.
Our programs teach children fundamental values, skills and knowledge that children will use throughout their lives.

ABOUT NCYFC CHEER

Our program focuses on teaching the fundamentals skills of cheerleading.  Our priority is to prepare your child for their next journey in cheerleading whether it is high school, all-star, college, coaching, judging competitions. We have a saying "youth cheer is where it starts"; we say that because we find that cheerleaders at higher levels of cheerleading often started at a youth cheer program like this one.  We also hope that cheerleading and our organization will have a positive impact on your child and your family as a whole.  Our organization offers many additional benefits to our nighthawk families such as food assistance, family counseling, financial assistance for season registration fees.

Having a good foundation of the basic skills in cheerleading is crucial to progression in the sport.  Our cheerleaders learn motions, jumps, tumbling, stunting, game day etiquette, voice projection.  Coaches teach their teams how to properly execute of these skills so they can build upon these skills through the season and for years to come.  Our squads take their best skills they have learned this season and put it together in a 2.5 minute competition routine.  Each squad for all age groups will learn a competition routine that they will perform at the local SDYFC Cheer Competition in October.  Competition is our girls opportunity to shine and for some of the girls this is the most exciting part of the season.

Our program is open to girls and boys from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Our organization prides itself in the strong commitment to our youth and our community and we strive to deliver a positive experience for both players and families involved in our programs.  Our coaches teach the necessary skills and fundamentals of cheerleading as well as the details of the sport they are cheering for. Along with the fundamentals of cheerleading, our coaches also hope to instill in each player the importance of discipline, drive, confidence and commitment.  The things your child will learn in our program are things that they can then apply to all things in life for a successful future.

PRACTICES

The AYC season begins July 22nd 2019 and will continue through the end of October and possibly through the second week of December if your child's squad qualifies to compete at our regional and/or national championships or your football team advances to playoffs.

Exact practice times vary according to coach's schedule and availability of outdoor/indoor facilities. All cheerleaders are required to complete 10 hours of conditioning prior to beginning regular practices. Teams typically practice 3 days a week until Labor Day.  After Labor Day practices typically limit to 2 days a week.  In general practice are held between the hours of 5:30-8:30 pm.  Practices are 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the division.  Practices are normally held at Rancho Bernardo Community Park, but may vary based on availability.  Exact practice days, times and locations will be announced as teams are formed.

Due to the nature of the sport, a practice missed by one cheerleader has a significant impact on the squad, particularly on that cheerleader’s stunt group, who are unable to stunt without every member present.  Please make an effort to schedule your family vacations during June and July.

GAMES

Games begin at the end of August, the game schedule will be issued by the association in August.  Home games are held at Del Norte High School.  Away games are held as far south as Otay Mesa and as far north as Temecula, the schedule will list the location of each game.  Games are held on Saturday, times vary based on location and division.

*Division 18/18U cheer team does not cheer for football games.
